To bring about improvement in the life of mentally challenged children and nurture and energize them by providing a wide range of unique vocational training, practical learning and qualitative services which may empower them to meet their special needs.
It is one of the rarest phenomenon when love and compassion are institutionalized, But it has happened in “Ankur” a school for Mentally Challenged Children. “Ankur” has been training and educating mentally challenged children for four decades. Our environment is barrier- free and eco-friendly. Training and education is free of cost irrespective of caste, class and religion. Our source of fund is mainly donation. It’s unique and only institute in the district. It addresses all the issues related with mental disabilities. “Ankur” listens all the cries of such children and all the calls of such parents compassionately.
The key words for Ankur in serving, training and educating such children are soulful and heart full. The Trustees and Staff have commitment for the cause, concern for the children and conviction for humanitarian services.
Ankur is the Day-care institute in Bhavnagar district since it has been founded in 1979.
It had started working with 8 to 10 mentally retardate children in the premises of sanskrut pathsala. Founders were few friends and an occupational therapist who started this humanistic work with determination and commitment. From 1979 to 1999, Ankur had no campus of its own, so the school was shifting from one to another place, and from one house to another house as if it was a mobile school. Because of awareness programmes, Local children were increasing gradually. Even people were coming out of superstitious ideas about it.
Ankur started sending young and enthusiastic workers to do M.R. diploma in Mumbai. So trained teachers were becoming available then. Today, there is constructed area of around 20000 Sq. feet, with all facilities and equipments necessary for ideal mentally retarded school. Environmentally it is more a sacred spiritual ashram than a school. It is because of human farming of Ankur, so many children are nearing to be normal human being with identity and integrity.
Ankur does not want to create mercy but pride in the eyes of everyone, for the mentally challenged. Ankur does not want to rub the tears of parents but keenly interested in bringing smile on their faces. Ankur wants to create the happiest and the healthiest human beings on this planet earth.
It is being said that home is not the place where we dwell but home is the place where we are understood.
Similarly “Ankur” has become the home for all mentally challenged children. It is a sanctuary of Love, friendliness and Compassion. Some of the factual reasons are under mentioned why it has become the shelter for mentally retarded Children’s body, mind and soul.
